Sikkim Kanchenjunga Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in India and a must to be added to your bucket list. Located in the midst on the Kanchenjunga Peaks, surrounded by the scenic beauty, this breathtaking trek in Sikkim is one of a kind. At a height of 8,586 meters (28,170 feet), one can feel the nature untouched by human in most places.

In the midst of Himalayas in India, Sikkim Kanchenjunga Trek lies in Sikkim, close to the boundary of India and Nepal.

How to plan this Sikkim Kanchenjunga Trek?

If you plan to take a flight, Bagdogra is where your destination should be. from Bagdogra it is the best to hire a cab to Darjeeling which is  around 67 Km and takes 2h and 30 min.



In Darjeeling a visit to the Tiger Hills is a must and the sunrise is a sight that shouldn’t be missed. You could spend a day in Darjeeling and visit a few places of your interest. You could visit Darjeeling Tourism Website to find more about the places you could visit in Darjeeling.

From Darjeeling, you could take another cab to Yuksom that is 83.3 Km and a 4 hr and 42 min drive.



You could take a detour and visit the Pameyangste monastery which is near Pelling but that is entirely up to you. It is one of the oldest gompas in Sikkim. Once you reach Yumsom, you would need to trek to Tshoka that takes about 6 – 7 hours. Tshoka is a small Tibetan Village and you can get a wonderful view of the Himalayas and the Kanchenjunga.

You are at 3,000 m height now.

Next  morning you start for a steep climb to Dzongri which is at over 4,000 m. The trek is for about 10 km but takes almost 4 – 5 hrs.


 

On the trail from Tshoka to Dzongri, you would come across many Yumsom yaks if you are travelling between April and October.

You could further move to Dzongri Top Goecha La and enjoy the breath taking view of the Kanchenjunga!


 

You could halt here for a day to get acclimatised to the high altitude especially if you’re travelling from the plains.

Next morning we start again for Thangsing where we find the trekkers huts. It is a 5.5 km trail and takes up to 4 – 5 hours. From there we can trek to Samity Lake, which is at 4200 m, for another 3 hours.

From Samity Lake we trek up towards Geocha La where we can see Talung glacier. We then proceed back to Thangsing for the night halt. It should take about 7 -10 hours.


 

Next morning we descent towards Lampokhari Lake, Sikkim which is also known as Aritar Lake. This trek is about 5 hrs.  You can feed the fish and swan in this lake also.


 

Next morning from Lampokhari we descent to Kasturi La which takes about 6 hrs and then further to Labdang the next day which again takes 6 hrs.

From Labdang we take our last trek to Tasiding which is around 5 hrs easy walk.

From Tashiding we take a cab to Martam which is located at the top of the hill between two rivers. From Martam we carry forward our journey to Gangtok which further takes an hour or so.


 

Make sure to visit the Rumtek Monastery near Gangtok. It is famous for Tibetan Art.

From Gangtok you can go back to Bagdogra by cab.
